So a little while ago I felt like trying a new skincare range. I’ve used a few different types through my life, and I’ve always struggled to find something that worked for me. My skin is slightly awkward, it’s combination with my nose and T-zone area really suffering with excess oil, but at the same time the creases by my nostrils becoming flaky and very dry, which makes finding products that cater to all my needs a little tricky. I had done a little research and found a lot of great comments about the Liz Earle brand, so I decided to give it a shot. Before trying this I was using ‘Simple’ day and night cream, along with ‘The Body Shop’s seaweed cleansing face wash and toner.
After a good look on their online store I found the best package for me; ‘Your Daily Routine with Skin Repair’. It included a Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, an Instant Boost Skin Tonic and a Skin Repair Moisturiser for Normal/Combination Skin. I was also happy to see I had a free gift and could choose from various other skincare products on the site. I went for the Gentle Face Exfoliator, as I try to exfoliate at least twice a week. I got all of this for only £45, which I thought was a bit of a bargain. Currently this offer is not entirely the same, as instead of the exfoliator for free you get a candle, which I assume is a Christmas offer, so keep an eye in the new year! Although the price is still the same, so if you like candles it’s still a good deal, but you may want to hold out and see if a better one is available after the holidays. My package arrived pretty quickly, and was packaged beautifully! (sadly I no longer have a picture of that due to phone issues) All of the products were laid carefully in an easy to open sealed box, and had a nice layer of crepe paper wrapped over them. I also had a lovely little note saying who exactly had packaged my item, as well as a complimentary travel Cleanse & Polish along with an extra muslin cleansing cloth. I have to say I was more than happy. I began using the regime straight away, as I just couldn’t keep away from it.
The photo on the left is before I started using the Liz Earle skin regime and the one on the right is after three months of using it. Both photos are taken in the same light and at about the same time of day.
During this time I cleansed, toned and moisturised every morning during and after my shower and every evening before bed. I exfoliated twice a week. It’s very obvious how much the products reduced the oil on my face. I found my skin was a lot smoother and definitely much less shiny. As you can also see on the left I was having a few mini breakouts as well, now these look pretty small and not that noticeable, but to me at the time they were huge, and were super stubborn to get rid of. The one on my chin was actually a red mark left from an especially aggressive spot that was on my face a few months previous. It wasn’t even raised from the skin, just literally a red mark, I had quite a few of these and I just could not get rid of them. As you can see on the right though they have cleared up drastically, something I was very very happy about, as I was beginning to lose hope of them ever disappearing.
Now for an in depth run down;
Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
I’d read an awful lot online about this specific product, and I know it’s won a lot of awards. When I first used it I couldn’t believe how much dirt it got off of what I thought was a clean face. I honestly didn’t realise until using this how little make up a face wipe actually removes, the muslin cloth was covered in my foundation. Afterwards my skin felt exceedingly soft, especially around my nose. I felt squeaky clean. Word of warning don’t leave it in the shower all the time, as water can get into the container and water it down. I will say after quite a while of using it I did feel the product didn’t work quite as well as in the beginning, and my face would still feel ‘gritty’ after using it, which was a shame. Still a top product though.
Instant Boost Skin Tonic
This toner is quite a soft one. I’m very used to having toners that give my face that ‘zing’ feeling, it’s something I half rely on to wake me up of a morning, but this one didn’t really have leave my skin feeling crisp, which is not necessarily a bad thing. This product had more of a soothing feel to it, and felt slightly more conditioning in it’s properties. Don’t get me wrong I did love this toner, and it definitely made my skin feel softer, although for reasons stated before I would rather keep this for evening use.
Skin Repair Moisturiser
Now this product is a weird one for me. This was the first time I had used the same cream for morning and evening, I usually have a separate cream for each, and although it really did do the job of both Day and Night moisturisers, I didn’t necessarily feel it worked for me like that. The cream had a very buttery texture and really was lovely, although I did find it a little too heavy for day use, and not quite heavy enough for over night (Night times I really love something that sinks into my skin, I hate waking up with my face feeling tight and dry). Overall the cream did a good job, and it’s definitely a saver having two in one rather than buying two creams, but in future I think I would only use it in the daytime and sparingly.
Gentle Face Exfoliator
This, THIS is now one of my favourite face exfoliators. Firstly it comes in a very handy pump bottle, along with it being slimline to fit into awkward places in your shower. Secondly it’s made with fine jojoba beads, which are better for the planet and your skin. And Thirdly it helps keep the skin mousturised while its exfoliating, as I cannot stress how much I hate my skin feeling tight or sore after exfoliating. I found it left my skin in an amazing condition and really made it feel silky smooth.
My Overall Feelings
After using this skincare routine I could definitely see the difference. It is not your bog standard regime you can find on the shelves in supermarkets, and it definitely does a better job. I’d say it’s brilliant value for money, as the Cleanse & Polish, Instant Boost, and the Gentle Exfoliator have lasted me just under a year, and to be honest I think the Exfoliator will get me to a year at least, if not further. The products are great, have a lovely scent and really do work. If you’re looking for top end skincare on a smaller budget this is a definite recommendation, although you may want to double up on face creams as I did get through this one quite quickly. Oh and it’s also not tested on animals, so win win!
